November Updates
This time of year is really hard for educators – in fact, it’s noted as the hardest time in the school year. Halloween, end of quarter grading, time change, cold weather and it’s a loooooooong way until Christmas break. Add on to that world events, personal stressors, and the cough that won’t seem to go away, it can feel like everything is out of control. Here are some tips and ideas for managing what you can when things feel out of control.
- Limit the external noise. Turn off the news, change settings on social media to things you want to see, find quiet time in your day.
- Plan for the future. Look ahead to times that will be enjoyable or a time to relax.
- Control what you can. Complete some of your work, even if you don’t finish it. Make a donation to a program you care about. Do a task in the house that gives you sense of accomplishment.
- Make time for people you care about. Find ways to spend time together that don’t require a lot of planning, gift giving, or other things that feel like a burden. Rather, an afternoon at a park or ice cream shop may be enough to help you feel connected again.
